Facial Scrubs, Facial Scrubs at Home, Face Care

Whether you're interested in beauty recipes from home, saving money, or are a naturalist at heart, homemade facial scrubs and treatments can be fun and beneficial. To help you in your pursuit to look and feel your best, we've provided the following concoctions. Please, keep in mind any possible allergies you may have when applying the treatments to your skin.

Revitalizing Facial Mist

You'll need:

1/3 cup Distilled Water

2 Tbsp. Rosewater

1 Tbsp. Orangeflower Water

1/2 tsp. Vitamin C

4 drops Lavender Essential Oil

3 drops Sweet Orange Essential Oil

3 drops Lemon Essential Oil

A bottle capable of holding 4 ounces

Add all the ingredients into the bottle. Give it a good shake. For a cool effect during warm summer hours, store the bottle in a refrigerator.

Acne Treatment

You'll need:

2-3 tsps. Dried Basil

1 cup Boiling Water

This treatment is for acne that doesn't seem to respond favorably to any other treatment. Steep the basil in the boiling water for 10-20 minutes. Allow it to cool, then apply it with a clean, cotton ball.

Skin Degreaser

You'll need:

1/2 cup Cooked Oatmeal

1 Egg White

1 Tbsp. Lemon Juice

1/2 cup Mashed Apple

When you want to take care of a problematic oily area, beat these ingredients into a smooth paste. A food processor works great! Apply the paste to your face in a semi-thick coating. Leave it on for 15 minutes, then rinse clean.

Glycerin Facial Cleanser

You'll need:

2 Tbsp. Cornstarch

2 Tbsp. Glycerin

1/2 cup Water

Blend the ingredients in a small metal bowl or the top pot of a double boiler. Place the bowl or pot in a warm water bath and heat gradually. Do not boil. The mixture should be clear and have the consistency of pudding. If it becomes too thick, add a tablespoon of water at a time until you have reached the desire thickness. Allow it to cool completely. Once it has, use it in place of soap or cleanser for your skin, then rinse off.

Aloe-Rose Facial Cream

You'll need:

3 Tbsp. Herbal Oil

1 1/2 tsp. Coconut Oil

1 3/4 tsp. Coconut Butter

1/4 tsp. Lanolin

1/2 tsp. Beeswax

2 Tbsp. Distilled Water

1 3/4 tsp. Rosewater

3/4 tsp. Glycerin

1 Tbsp. Aloe Vera Gel

1 drop Tea Tree Essential Oil

In a small pan, heat the oils (save the tea tree oil), butter, lanolin, and beeswax over low heat. Once melted, allow the oils to cool. The oils and water mixtures need to be the same temperature for a successful blend.

Add the remaining ingredients to a blender. On medium-high speed, dribble the oil mixture into the blender. Continue until all the oil is added or until the blender acts as if it is slowing down and will stop. You should have a creamy mixture. Pour it into a container and label it. Should you make extra, store it in the refrigerator. The facial cream will keep up to two weeks, possibly three, on its own.

Variations: Exchange the flower waters for your own preference. Add Vitamin A or E essential oils or herbal extracts.

Lemon Toner

You'll need:

1/2 cup Lemon Juice

1 cup Distilled Water

2/3 cup Witch Hazel

A bottle for storage

Combine all the ingredients. Shake well before each use. Apply with a cotton ball. Store in the refrigerator.

Honey and Oats Scrub

You'll need:

1/2 cup Uncooked Oatmeal

1 Tbsp. Honey

1 Tbsp. Cider Vinegar

1 tsp. Ground Almonds

Blend the ingredients into a thick paste. Use a warm, damp washcloth to moisten the skin. Apply the paste and allow it to dry. Remove the dry mask with a wet washcloth. Because this treatment is meant to exfoliate the skin, it is best to only apply it once or twice a week at most.

Peppermint Facial Scrub

You'll need:

2 cups Rolled Oats

1 cup Almonds

2 tsp. Dried Lavender

2 tsp. Dried Peppermint

2 cups White Cosmetic Clay

Mix oats, almonds, and herbs in a blender until fine or grind with a mortar and pestle. Blend well with the cosmetic clay and store in a container with a lid. To use, mix a large tablespoon with a teaspoon of water into a paste. Apply to the skin, massaging a bit, then rinse off.
