As parents we like to make sure that our children are eating well and getting all the nutrients they need. Children need two to three servings of vegetables on a daily basis. But it always isn’t easy for us as parents to get our children to eat vegetables. We as parents should try to get our children to eat vegetables any way we can because of the fact that vegetables protect against cancer and heart disease. By children learning to eat vegetables now, when they're young, will help them to continue eating them when they get older which will help with them staying healthy throughout their lives.
Some ways to get children to eat vegetables are just by us eating them ourselves and then by seeing us doing it they will sometimes just start eating vegetables themselves. Also don’t say stuff like that if they eat their vegetables they can have dessert because this works for a little while but then this ends up back firing which could result in them hating vegetables. Also, by not serving the same dishes all the time can work because they will get new varieties of foods which will help them with being able to try new things.
But sometimes the simple things just don’t work so then as parents, we have to start becoming a little creative when it comes to making our children eat these vegetables. By doing this we will make sure they get all the nutrients they need to grow up to be healthy and strong. By doing this in the beginning when their small will hopefully help them learn to love vegetables all on their own.
Some creative ways to make children eat vegetables are by just cutting vegetables up like carrots, cucumbers, celery and assembling them in a creative way on a plate with vegetable dip for an afternoon snack. This can also be done by slightly steaming carrots, broccoli, celery and olives and calling it horod’oerves. Also this can be done with cheese sauce either by dipping the vegetables or by putting the cheese right on top of the cooked or raw vegetables.
There are cooked dishes that already contain vegetables like soup with varieties like vegetable, potato and even chicken soup which contains carrots and celery in it too. Some of these could be even more delicious with some melted cheese put right on top of it.
You can blend vegetables in a blender and then add them to such dishes as spagetti sauce, meatloaf or anywhere else you feel you can add it to be creative. Children end up eating these dishes without even knowing there getting their supply of vegetables in it.
If you prefer you can also add a teaspoon of sugar on top of cooked green beans and peas to make them have a little sweeter taste. This can also be done by topping sweet potatoes, yams and squash with marshmallows. Doing this won’t contribute to a sweet tooth because it’s such a small amount and also by the fact that it’s offered with a healthy food instead of a cake.
There are also a bunch of vegetarian recipes available that vegetables can also hide in, like zucchini pizza.
If you have a child that refuses to eat vegetables hopefully some of these suggestions I’ve listed will help to turn around that situation and get them eating those vegetables, which in the end will help them to live a more healthy lifestyle.
