The treatment was developed by Dr. Dale Lawrence Pearlman, a dermatologist at Menlo Park, California, USA – it is called Nuvo Lotion. Nuvo Lotion is massaged into wet hair and scalp. You then blow dry the hair. An invisible, airtight film covers the hair shafts and also the lice – the lice suffocate in the film (and die). You leave the lotion on your head for eight hours – it comes off after one shampooing. You then do this again a week later, and then again a week after that – three treatments. According to the FDA, Nuvo Lotion ingredients are safe. Nuvo Lotion has a cure rate of 96%, according to studies with 133 children (all with head lice infestation). This is as good, or even better, than standard treatments (permethrin, pyrethrin, and Malathion). As lice become more resistant to treatment, lotions have become more potent. Many parents are concerned about how these potent medicines may affect their children. This new treatment attacks the lice in a different way – it does not poison them. |
