Publish Date : 9/13/2004 10:20:00 AM Source : SkinCareIndia Health News One year after his teenage daughter's tragic and preventable death, Monty Patterson will travel to Washington, DC to voice his safety concerns about the RU486 or Mifeprex and misoprostol medical abortion regimen.
Holly Marie Patterson was seven weeks pregnant when she expected to safely and secretly end her unplanned pregnancy without her parents knowledge. On September 10, 2003 she entered a Planned Parenthood clinic and within a week was dead from septic shock. Spirited, intelligent, blond and beautiful, she graduated high school in just three years and believed her whole life was ahead of her. Holly died on September 17, 2003, just two weeks after her 18th birthday. Helpless to share in her future, Monty Patterson will carry Holly's story to Washington D.C. He will meet with White House and FDA officials and speak at the Concerned Women for America's national convention about the Mifeprex regimen and how it is jeopardizing the safety, health, and welfare of young women and families. Quote "My solemn duty is to inform families and help keep women safe. Be "Pro-Active" with your family through education and open communication about prevention and support of unplanned pregnancy. Everyone wants to prevent it." FDA Meeting Specifics On Wednesday, September 15th, he will meet with the following FDA officials, Steven Galson, MD, M.Ph., Acting Director for the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, John Jenkins, MD, Director of the Office of New Drugs, Florence Houn, MD, Director of the Office of Drug Evaluation and Donna Greibel, MD, Deputy Director of the Division of Reproductive and Urologic Drug Products. He will focus on the drug's safety and efficacy concerns, request the FDA to the transform the voluntary adverse event reporting system to a mandatory process which would require physicians, health care institutions and abortion providers to report the serious side effects of drugs to the FDA, and drug manufacturer and abortion provider accountability. White House Meeting Specifics On Thursday, September 16th, Mr. Patterson will also be meeting with White House officials, Alan Gilbert, Special Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy and Amy Jensen, Special Assistant to the President for Legislative Affairs. This meeting will focus on the safety issues of the Mifeprex medical abortion regimen, the controversial FDA drug approval process, establishing mandatory FDA adverse event reporting systems, expediting release of adverse event reports to the public through the FOIA (Freedom of Information Act), and Federal funding for community outreach and family intervention programs for unplanned pregnancies. The CWA National Convention On Saturday, September 18th, Monty Patterson is also scheduled to speak at the national convention of Concerned Women for America , the nation's largest public policy women's organization. CWA is a Pro Life organization which believes abortion harms women. He will convey "Holly's Story" and discuss the medical, legal, political, and reporting issues that surround the controversial nature of the abortion pill regimen. His focus is on the health, safety, and welfare of young women, which should be of the most primary concern to everyone. |
