Publish Date : 9/13/2004 10:36:00 AM Source : SkinCareIndia Health News UK Health Minister Lord Warner and Science Minister Lord Sainsbury today announced the appointment of five new Members, and the reappointment of two Members, to the Human Genetics Commission.
Lord Warner said "I am delighted to announce these new appointments to HGC. The Commission remains a valued source of expertise and well-considered advice for the Government and these appointments will help it to carry on this important work. Developments in human genetics bring new challenges for society and we need to consider their full implications now so we can reap the benefits whilst making sure we have the proper safeguards in place". The new members are Dr Paul Debenham, Professor John Harris, Mr Michael Harrison, Dr Iona Heath, Dr Susan Johnson, all of whom are appointed to July 2007. Sir John Sulston and Dr Stephen Bain have been reappointed to the Commission and Sir John has been appointed as Vice-Chair. Lord Sainsbury said "I welcome HGC's revised Membership and look forward to receiving its advice and recommendations in this high profile and sensitive area. Since its formation it has provided us with valuable advice on a number of complex issues associated with developments in human genetics. Its policy of openness and transparency has helped to encourage the involvement of the public and other stakeholders in these important issues". |
