Most Americans will become overweight, 90% of men and 70% of women
Source : Weight Control
Publish Date : 10/5/2005 3:11:00 AM

According to a study that has just come out, the vast majority of Americans will be fat. Even half of the men in the study who were of normal weight during a good part of their adult life eventually became obese. According to the study, 70% of American women and 90% of American men will eventually get fat.

You can read about this study in the Annals of Internal Medicine. The researchers indicate that the obesity problem may be far greater than previous studies had concluded. Their message to all Americans is ‘Don't become complacent…… you are at risk of becoming overweight.'

In this study researchers looked at information on 4,000 adults, aged 30-59, over a period of three decades. 33% had become obese. Each adult had been examined every four years.

As the problem of obesity and overweight is getting worse, the figures that looked back over thirty years are expected to grow (if you look forward thirty years).

The USA has become a country where trying not to become obese or overweight is a hard task. All the odds are tipped against the Americans. Everything revolves around leading a sedentary life and eating lots of unhealthy food.

Here is an email from a German doctor who had gone to a conference in Illinois: ‘One afternoon I decided to go for a walk. I noticed there were hardly any sidewalks on this road. On two occasions people stopped their car and asked if I was OK. The second stopper was a police car. The policeman found it hard to believe I was just going for a walk.'
