Health News Olay Gentle Foaming Face Wash with Aloe.
Lately, though, (based largely in part on the critical way I view most everything I buy now, thanks to epinions) I’ve been wondering exactly how well they live up to the company’s claims. The one I use most often these days is Olay Foaming Face Wash for Sensitive Skin. I leave it right in my shower so that it’s easily accessible on a daily basis. This morning I decided to put it to an actual test. The Product Olay Foaming Face Wash for Sensitive Skin is part of the Daily Care Series of cleansers. There are seven others to choose from which include a toner, moisture-balancing formulas, other products for sensitive skin, and one with witch hazel. This particular wash is 100% Soap and Oil Free and 100% Fragrance and Color Free. Claims Olay Foaming Face Wash for Sensitive Skin claims to: Deep Clean - Thoroughly removes dirt, oil, and make-up without overdrying. Refreshes - Contains oil free moisturizers and helps your skin retain its own natural moisture. Directions Wet hands and face. Pump into hand. Splash product with water, work into lather and massage on skin. Rinse off with warm water. Ingredients Water, Glycerin, Sodium Myristoyl Sarcosinate, PEG-120 Methyl Glucose Dioleate, Sodium Lauromaphoacetate, Disodium Lauroamphodiacetate, Glycol Distearate, PEG-150 Pentaerithitol Tetra Stearate, Sodium Trideceth Sulfate, Polyquaternium-10, Sodium, Laureth Sulfate, Phenoxyethanol, Cocamide MEA, Citric Acid, DMDM Hydantoin, Disodium EDTA, Laureth-10. All Right Already . . . But How Does it Work?? So I followed the directions to the letter, and here’s what I discovered. First, it took some thorough rinsing to get it all off. It tends to want to stick to the skin like a gel once it’s there. But, it seemed to do a pretty good job of cleaning my face of dirt, oil and make-up as it says. I’m not scientist enough to determine by the ingredients whether it actually contains soap or fragrance, but there was only a very faint scent, and it definitely didn’t over-dry or even slightly dry my skin. There was a feeling of softness from the moisturizers. So, it wasn’t a “wow-my-skin-feels-SOOOOO-soft” kind of thing, but it was passable since the main purpose is to clean. Now, my initial impression would have been good enough had the product not used one specific phrase . . . deep cleans. I had to be sure it fit the bill, so I grabbed out a cotton ball and dabbed a bit of astringent cleansing lotion onto it (no, I’m not going to mention the brand . . . ssshhh, it’s a competitor) and proceeded to test areas of my face for cleanliness. Hmm . . . unfortunately, there was a touch of brown left on the cotton ball. Well, so much for deep cleaning. But, you see, I have this nifty little thing that made all the difference in the world in supporting the product’s claims. I like to call it “washcloth”. When following the directions one more time with the washcloth instead of just my bare hands, success was to be had. The cotton ball came out completely clean this time. In my opinion, the problem with using just hands is that the cleanser isn’t allowed to penetrate deep enough into the pores to do its job properly. It’s just being glided over the skin. See what magic a little square of cloth does? Besides, it also helped rinse the wash off more easily. As for the foaming part? Well, there’s a trick to that also. You will notice that the directions have an extra step compared to what you would usually think necessary. Once both the face and hands are wet, and the face wash is pumped into the hands, the consumer is directed to splash product with water then work into a lather. Without adding a touch of water to the wash itself, you will get some bubbles, but not the foam it's meant to have. Now, this is of the utmost importance, don’tcha know, because it is the foam that makes all the difference in how it works. Um . . . yeah, okay. To Sum it All Up For having paid only $3.99, and having that innovative piece of cloth in my linen cupboard, I was quite pleased with the results of my Olay Foaming Face Wash for Sensitive Skin. This was, of course, a great relief to me since I would have hated to have been forced to give a bad review on a product whose company I’ve striven to be loyal to for . . . well . . . quite some time.
